In 1938, during the Japanese occupation, sickly Ju-ran is sent to a girls' boarding school that doubles as a sanatorium. With help from her new friend Yeon-deok and the headmistress's special treatments, her health improves, but classmates start vanishing one after another and her own body begins changing in strange ways.
Three bored high school girls hold a séance with a traditional Korean spirit board, and a ghost tied to water seems to answer. Meanwhile Min Ji-won, a skilled swimmer who has lost her memory, is troubled by nightmares from her forgotten past, and an old friend warns her that someone named Su-in is coming for them.
